Suppose happiness is justice itself.
This is because happiness is a
common good for lives and in social relationships.
We all are part of
the same life. We all are seeking happiness, because we are life-forms while we
must understand that each one has their own happiness.
It must be
the best or the common good if each person is happy in society.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “Justice” means
“fairness in the way
people are dealt with.”
Although there must be objections about the
definition, this essay is being written based on that definition to simplify my
argument.
So, if happiness is defined as justice in a society, people
should be dealt with in the way they are/become equal and happy in it.
The
entities who deal with people or who are dealt with would be, governments,
schools, businesses firms, religious groups, ethnic groups, nations,
individuals.
People should treat each other basically freely, to make
ourselves and the others happy, fairly and equally in a positive sense, and not
discriminating against each other.
Such fairness and equality should be
highly respected, especially by government personnel or public servants as is
often the case with business personnel to their customers. At the individual
level, these subjects can be our friends or family members.
It’s another
story if I can treat them equally.
To put it negatively, people should
not kill and,- not injure each other terribly.
For example, no death
penalty, no harsh punishments.
Lessons of religions and thoughts should
be the ones that do not harm people.
However, if this is not possible, the
government should positively protect and improve the lives, safety, and human
rights of the people.
Thoughts and religions should take the highest
priority in happiness rather than the other lessons within them.
For
example, while there are lessons like "an eye for an eye" or "evil should be
destroyed," we should take priority in lessons like "Love for love," "Condemn
the crime rather than the criminal," "saving to the last man," "leave everything
to the save-all force," "love your enemy," and "love one another."
Positively, people should be treated so that they can be and we can make them as
happy as possible.
Here is a quote from the lyrics of Exile (Japanese pop group):
"It is love to wish for happiness"
When happiness and interest
conflicts, it should be settled peacefully by adjustment, arbitration,
mediation, substitution, sublation or intervention by force (to buffer the
conflict).
For instance, there is an extreme example that ancient Roman
citizens set lions on Christians in the arena for entertainment in "Justice:
What Is Right Thing To Do."
In such a case, there should be an alternative
form of amusement.
In this case, the situation should have been calmly
reconsidered so that those Roman citizens who were seeking amusement could have
had the martial art matches or shows offered.
(to the extent those fighters
do not damage each other so badly).
Everyone is not absolutely wanting,
desiring or requiring the objective itself. It is not absolute that you need to
obtain what you exactly want, like, or to do what you exactly want to.
Rather, you can flexibly try to find something else, somebody else, something
else to do.
At times, it is nice to definitely seek something that has
no alternative to it. However, we can say it could be better for us not to stick
to one thing. Rather, we should take our minds off, compromise, seek something
else, or seek for the better at times.
It may require a little patience.
However, sometimes it could give us something better on the contrary.
Suppose you are extremely frustrated because you desperately want a luxury car
like a TOYOTA Land Cruiser right now but can't afford it. Why don't you change
your viewpoint and ask yourself as follows (I don't mean to deny seeking the
best)?
"Do I need it right now? "
“Can't I save up some more money to
get it?
" Can't it be another model or a different car?"
"To begin with,
why do I want a car?
If I'm just trying to feel good, can't I do something
else to gain that feeling? "
“Is there anything else I can do to take my
mind off it?”
Chiemi Blouson, a female Japanese comedian says " There
are 3.5 billion men on the earth (for a woman seeking a boyfriend)."
How
many encounters can we expect if we don't stick to one specific person or can
accept even an alien?
People may take their mind off finding a partner in
some cases.
The best thing to do may be to keep a balance between aspiring
to get the best and compromising. Although I am not saying I am doing that.
In some cases, enforcement is likely to be inevitable when the parties in
the dispute hardly compromise and the third party faces a violent escalation.
However, it is not the kind of enforcement that imposes plans on the
disputing parties, but the kind that prevents the parties from badly harming
themselves or each other by an enforced intervention.
For example, this is
one of the cases where justice and its power have a great influence on bullies.
What mentioned above are basic rules.
Every rule has its exception.
A rule is not always applicable.
Also, I tried to define the state of
being happy.
In order to be happy, it has to be such state in both of:
1. biological, medical and social aspect, and
2. emotional aspect where
the person himself/herself feel.
It is the state in which he/she feels happy
in biological, medical and social aspect by satisfying his/her desires, or by
secretion of brain chemicals related to happiness.
It must be true that
brain chemicals and other brain substances related to pain, suffering, joy,
pleasure, hunger, feeling of fullness, disease, health and happiness are what
most life-forms have in common.
It is also paradoxically true that
happiness is commonly the same to humans in a sense that each of them has their
own form of happiness.
It is social conditions such as safety, affluent
commodities, civilization, family, local community, nation, international
relations and so on that bring us such happiness.
We can be happy when we
can live in safety and peace.
2. emotional aspect where the person
himself/herself feel.
Even if one is in good health, is rich, or has a
lot of friends, he/she might not be feeling happy.
On the other hand,
another person might be feeling happy even if he/she is sick or poor, although
it could add another element to his/her happiness if he got cured or became
rich.
In this way, for the realization of happiness, it is also necessary
for one to be feeling that he/she is happy.
