OPEN LETTER:Coexistence of Libertarianism
and Everyone's Happiness
~Lovers of liberty, let’s empower love to take care of
the weak ~
Dear Libertarians
How about redefining one of your ideals; ”the minimal state” as being “minimal
enough only to secure people’s happiness and freedom?”
Then why not empower both the government minimally and charity organizations to
take care of the needy?
In this way, the basis of happiness for all should be secured, even if you would
not personally interfere with others and pursue individual liberty.
Firstly because in helping the needy, both the government and non-government
charity organizations have their advantages and disadvantages and they should
supplement each other.
The advantage of the private sector is that it is "flexible and able to be
deeply involved," while its disadvantage is that it is "unstable and weak,”
compared with the government.
The advantage of government welfare is that it is "stable and powerful” and its
disadvantage is that it is "inflexible”.
Secondly because without the above-mentioned mutual supplement, the needy won’t
be adequately provided for and everyone can’t be happy.
At first glance, the government helping everyone seems to contradict the
"minimal state." Still, by considering that minimal power should be given to the
government only for "everyone's freedom and happiness," happiness for all and
libertarianism can be compatible.
Lovers of liberty, what do you think of my opinion?
If you agree with me, let’s empower love to take care of the weak!
Thank you for reading the entire letter.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Takeo Omae
